Schoeps CCM 3 Overview

TheSCHOEPS CCM 3 Omni Directional Compact Microphone with LEMO Disconnecthas an omni directional pattern. It is a miniature true classic condenser microphone (no electret used). The capsule and amplifier b an inseparable unit in a single housing. The microphone includes a K5 LU 16’ Detachable LEMO to XLR-3M Adapter Cable with 3mm diameter, SGC Stand, and wood box.

It is used for very distant miking with good bass response and/or as an ambience microphone. It features diffuse-field placement (well beyond the reverberation radius).

The CCM 3 is designed for placement in a diffuse sound field, i.e., at distances in reverberant environments where the greater portion of the arriving sound has already been reflected from various room surfaces. In such placement, the integrated frequency response of this capsule is essentially flat. It is remarkable how well-focused a recording can be made with omni directional microphones at such distances, when the microphones have been designed and placed appropriaby. But when sound arrives from nearby sources in front of the capsule, high frequencies are distinctly accented, leading to a sound image with special brilliance.

If this type of microphone is used close to the sound source, the emphasis of high frequencies for on-axis sound incidence would become bly audible, producing an overly brilliant sonic impression.

If miking distances more typical of the mono and early stereo era are to be used, a capsule such as the CCM 3, with its full diffuse-field equalization, may well offer the optimal balance of focus, depth, and spaciousness; and the KA 40 accessory spheres (sold separaby) can then add a further measure of presence to the sound at such distances, if desired. The CCM 3 is also often used as an ambient room microphone.

The included K 5 LU Cable is an adapter cable from the LEMO output connector of the CCM _L Compact Condenser Microphones to XLR-3M.

The included Miniature Stand Mount with Swivel SGC is adjustable from 0° through 100° in either direction. The internal thread of the SGC screws onto any 3/8” rod (e.g., vertical support rods STR) or stand adapter. The SGC is an integral part of the HC miniature cable hanger and the TCg table stand.
